GS39 and Skype?
I can't seem to get skype to recognize the camera. I'm running XP SP2 and I also have a crappy Logitech webcam, but that why I wanted to try out the GS39. I plug in the GS39 via USB and it's recognized by the computer and vice versa. The "WEB" icon is in the upper left corner of the camera's LCD screen, so I know that it knows it's plugged in. Also, when I browse to the "USB Video Device" through Windows Explorer, very nice moving images appear exactly how they should. I just can't get skype to detect the camera. I'm running the latest version of skype, and the camera is listed in the pull down menu of video devices to select, but when I select it, the same crappy Logitech video comes up. I even tried unplugging the Logitech hoping that it would go to the only other video device, but then it just said "no camera found" or whatever. I wouldn't think that the firewire cable is needed, because that's mainly just for capturing. And the picture is coming through loud and clear via USB in Windows Explorer, so it's not a bandwidth issue. Is it just that it's a skype thing? Other skype users encouraged to reply.

Update
I've gotten and tried the same tests with the same results using the firewire dv 6-4 pin cable. Everybody seems to be reading this, but no one has experienced it before?

That is correct. I have never used Skype. I see a lot of unanswered questions about Skype.
