How do I trim some parts out of a file?

I am using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0d. I have some videos of my dog playing frisbee and I want to cut out some of the footage of her when she is running behind me. I did this with the software that came with the JVC Everio camcorder but I can't seem to figure it out with Vegas.

Thanks.

Press s to split clip, and delete the part you don't want. You can do it while you're editing or ahead of time in the trimmer tool.

Or you can grab the end of a clip, and drag it to the length you want it.

Oh... that simple? Haha. Thanks.

Now it seems like when I do this a fair amount in a clip (like 3 or 4 times) it hangs up a little when playing the clip and it gets close to the split. What causes that and how can I fix it?

Thanks again.

That's just lag. Close other open programs, give it some time to load, and set your preview window to "auto".

Thanks. The auto setting seemed to help.

My PC is a little older... P4 3.0 ghz, 2 gig corsair XMS ram, 256mb 9800 Pro video card.

I've been eyeballing a new Dell XPS, quad core, dual 512mb video, 4 gig corsair, 10k rpm harddrive. yummy... but $2k hurts =o)
