Question using usb flash drive sticks with hd7?

Hi all,
I'm new here to this board and the hd7. I read somewhere (and now can't find it) that you can use the usb port on the camera to connect flash drive sticks to empty out the HDD while on vacation so you don't need to carry along a laptop computer. How is this done? The manual doesn't list that option. Also, how much recording time can fit on an 8 gig stick in full hd? (I have 3 of them). Thank you, Rick.

This is good question, I never tried it out, but soon will try with my external HDD. Hope it will work!

Yes , I Have a 8 gig in mine. just ordered a 16 gig. I do live bands some time the Air pressure will make the hard drive skip. with the SD card it don't happen at all, works great ! Like two Cam's in one. I have read somewere someone used a 32 gig . and it worked find. I think he was a skydiver?

Thank you for the replies Just to be clear on what i'm asking about....I am not talking about the SD flash memory card function of this camera, but using those external USB flash memory sticks (flash drives). I know I can record on either the HDD or the SD cards, but unclear about using those external USB flash sticks inplace of downloading to a computer. Hmmm, I never thought about using the SD cards (didn't think they had enough capacity), maybe alot easier than the sticks? Are the cards priced the same as the sticks? Thank you, Rick.

hi rush,
I just got a reply from adam at jvc and he said this camera is not set up to connect directly to a usb device, must use a computer or their sharestation unit. we'll see how your tests go. thanks, rick
