DCR-HC37 Transfer to PC via AV out?

the firewire socket on my HC37 has died due to a damaged pin but I would like to know if it is possible to still transfer to my PC but using the Av Out instead?

I have tried the USB but the quality is poor as expected and the cost of repairing the Firewire socket is prohibitive so any advice on the hardware required to do this would be appreciated

Yes, as long you have analog output the signal can be converted or recorded to anther medium. For instance you can record to DVD recorder -> DVD/RW/RAM then to PC. Or you can go directly to PC with some TV tuner card. Another method is intermediary device such as analog to digital converter to PC. All these methods do not require firewire for data transfer.

I had not considered the possibility of direct transfer to DVD recorder and then editing that on the PC but that could help.

I had looked at a few TV tuner cards but I have not been able to find any with all 3 RCA inputs (Red/Black/Yellow) - do you know of any?

I don't know any "(Red/Black/Yellow)"; if you mean Red/White/Yellow, not all have these ports. Look at Hauppauge:
