3rd party editing for SONY HDR-SR1 on iMovie?

When I purchased my SONY HDR-SR1, you couldn't edit the High Definition footage on Mac Book Pro. Now I was told that it is now possible.

So my question is, in order for me to edit the HD footage, what do I need to do? Do I need software from SONY? The camera came with a software disk back when I got the camera in 2006. Or do I turn to Mac and get the Final Cut Pro or whatever?

For now, I want to edit my HD footage on iMovie. Eventually I'll be getting some version of Final Cut.

Hi.
The answer is two-fold
- does your macbook pro have an intel processor ? the power pc processors can't handle AVCHD
- if yes, then imovie 08 or Final cut express 4 or pro 6 will do the job without additional software.

yes, my mac book pro has an intel processor. I have iMovie so I'll have to check if it's iMovie 08.
