Low light vs HC90/96

I'm in the market for a HD camcorder. I'm learning towards the HC9 but also looking over there. I have a Sony HC90 (HC96) which is a standard def CCD camcorder. It seems good in low light. I do occasionally shoot indoors, dust, in town at night, etc. and don't want a focus that keeps hunting in and out. Anyone here have experience with an older standard def miniDV and what do you think about newer HD in lower light?
