Change Date Format
I have the SR11 and am using Picture Motion Browser to transfer to a DVD. I noticed that after I created the DVD the date format is as follows: DD-MM-YYYY (Day Month Year). This is the European Format. I want it to read MM-DD-YYYY (Month Day Year) which is the U.S. format.
Anyone know how I can change this?
Thanks

Where is this date located that you are referring to?

When you are using Picture Motion Browser to make an AVCHD DVD and you choose the video you want to put on the DVD. You will notice that the thumbnails of each video show the date and time. The date displays as DD-MM-YYYY. Once the video is burned to the DVD and you play it on your Blu-Ray video player it shows the same DD-MM-YYYY format.
I cannot find out how to change this to MM-DD-YYYY.

I'm not an expert on this cam, but while you can make this adjustment on some other Sony cams and decks, a quick look at the SR11 manual reveals no mention of this. I'm guessing it's a PMB or BD player issue and needs to be adjusted there.
To confirm this, you could play back some video straight from the cam to your HDTV with DATA CODE enabled and showing the date -- then you'd see if the format issue was there or elsewhere.

Playing the video in the camera using Data Code is correct. I am thinking it is a PMB problem. The date display format is European (DD-MM-YYYY) not United States (MM-DD-YYYY). I'll bet this is the same way the Japanese write it.
Don't they know that the Metric system was forced down our throats and is all but done. I remember traveling on the highways and they had signs that displayed miles and kilometers. I have not seen these in years.

No, the United States is pretty much on their own as far as the rest of the world except a few other countries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_a...tion_by_country

tshelly,
This statement kind of threw me for a loop because you stated that you were able to get a thumbnail menu when you create AVCHD DVD's using PMB. Your version of PMB is different than the version that came with my HDR-SR1. My SR1 came with PMB ver. 1.1, and your SR11 came with ver. 3.0. I am not able to create thumbnail menu's with my version when I create AVCHD DVD's. I can only create thumbnail menu's when I create SD DVD's. My AVCHD DVD's that are created using PMB just start at the beginning of the video and play. So this prompted some research and I found that ver. 3.0 does in fact allow you to create thumbnail menu's even when you create a AVCHD DVD. That was great news to me but it didn't help any to resolve your date format issue. The funny thing is that my version displays the date the way you would like it (AUG 30, 2008 09:47AM for example) when I burn SD DVD's that use the thumbnail menu system. So I don't know why the makers of PMB decided to change the format. It is definitely a PMB issue though.
There are several different ways you can change the date and time that displays under the thumbnail, but I couldn't find a way to change the actual "format". You can change the date and time by using the "Batch Date Change" feature located under the "Manipulate" tab. Or you can change it by selecting an individual file and in the pop-up Image Information window by highlighting the date or time on the Date Taken line and change the date or time from there. But I could find no way, at least in my version, to change the date format.
PMB does allow you to add and change the date format and the way it displays when you print still photo's from it. Just not on the menu system when you create video's.
I wish I could have found you an answer. But I was at least happy to see that you can now have a thumbnail menu with your AVCHD DVD's as well as your SD DVD's. That was a big plus IMO. Too bad they had to go and change the date format. I would really like to see them allow you to change the date and time to a small title so you can name each thumbnail. Maybe in a future version.
I'm curious about something else though. With my version of PMB, when I use it to create a AVCHD DVD and then play it in my Blue-ray Player, there is a 1 second gap between each scene that is very annoying. (A "scene" is the file that is created each time the camcorder is stopped and started) This is only an issue with AVCHD DVD's created by PMB. When I use Vegas, Nero 8UE, or burn them with my DVDirect VRD-MC5 directly from the camcorder there are no gaps. I was just wondering if PMB resolved that issue in the new version or if it was still plagued with that problem?

I don't know if this is what you are talking about but there is a delay between one scene and the next. What happens is the last frame of the previous scence is frozen for about one second before the next scene plays.

Sounds like basically the same thing. Mine just goes Black for about a second before starting the next scene.
I wonder why Sony can't fix this? They seem to know what the problem is because it isn't an issue when you burn a disc directly from the camcorder to the DVDirect VRD-MC5. All the same individual files are still there, just no delay happens between them. But if you burn a disc straight from the camcorder to the computer's DVD burner using the Handycam Utility or if you use PMB and burn a disc directly from the same files that have been downloaded to the computer, there is the delay between the files (scenes). You would think that by now, they would have fixed it since they obviously know what causes it. The files that end up on the DVD that is burned by the MC5 are slightly different in size even though they have the same file name. So the MC5 is adding something to them to make them transition smoothly from one to the next. If the MC5 can add the magic fix to the file, so can PMB or the Handycam Utility.
I don't understand Sony sometimes.
