Battery charged but dies

I have an Aiptek A-HD camcorder that works well for what I want to do with it. But, even when completely charged, sometimes the camcorder just says "low battery" out of no where and dies. I just turn it back on and it's back to full charge again.

Sometimes I can record for like 20 minutes, but most of the time I only make it like 5 minutes before it just shuts off. This is really annoying.

Do you think I need a new battery? It hasn't gotten much use since I got the camera a year ago, so I would feel the battery would still be good. Also, do you think upgrading to the bigger battery would solve the problem?

Thanks.

You might need a new battery. The web site only calls it a "Polymer Battery". Some of the Lithium Ion and Lithium Ion Polymer batteries only last about 36 months after they are manufactured (not when you bought them). Does yours have any date on it?

It says it's a "Lithium Ion Battery Pack" on the one I have, and I can't find a date on it. Maybe upgrading to the bigger one would be a good idea. Do you know of any off-brand batteries that would work in this camera?

This battery is a 3.7v 1000mAh battery. The upgraded one is 1800 mAh Polymer battery. Claims to "almost double the charge of the regular battery". For $30, it doesn't seem like a bad idea to try it, I guess. I'll wait and see what you say about off-brand batteries before purchasing anything first.

Offhand, I don't know of any offbrand batteries for that camera.

1000mAh battery vs 1800 mAh is almost twice the capacity, abot 1,8 times approximately.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I think I found the solution to my problem. The Aiptek A-HD's battery seems to not fit very well into the battery slot. (I think buying the newer, larger battery would fit better, but I am not really sure.)

My dad is an electrician, so he has access to material to make shims. These shims (or spacers) occupy the space in which the battery has to move around in the slot. (The material is designed to use around electronics and still be safe. It would probably be unsafe to just jam any old thing in the slot.) Now, the battery can't move in the battery slot, and I haven't had it die on me yet.

Poor design on Aiptek's part, it seems.
