Upper or lower field first?

Hello All!

I have a SR 100 and I recently purchased the new Corel Videostudio 12 ultimate. I love the software but the resulting output with Mpeg is a bit soft. I have one question that I saw replied in these forums months ago, but cannot find anymore: when burning a video from a Sony HDD camcorder (Sr 100 in this case), should I select the "upper field first" or lower field first" options. As I rememebred this affected immensely the image quality.

Sorry for my ignorance, my english and thanks in advance for the replies.

Best regards
Joao

Your cam is recording MPEG2 video files UPPER field first.
To maintain the best quality keep the exact properties of the original files (upper field first) for the entire process.

If you are outputting to DVD and have less than about an hour footage for the whole project try not to re-encode the original. Leave the bitrate and all the settings the same. This will maintain full quality. ONLY re-encode of you have to save on space.

The easiest way to do this is to go into the preference ans select for VS to ask what you want the project properties to be when you place a clip in the timeline. Just select "Same as first clip. Then when it is time to output you can be suare that the program will only re-encode those parts of the project that it has to.
