one outlet for firewire and power?

I am trying to capture video on my PC from the Sony HC32 and I only see one outlet (port) for either the power cord OR the firewire cable. I don't want to rely on the battery...

Any suggestions besides just fully charging battery before I start capturing the video?

thanks,
Lisa

You're supposed to use the base station. The Firewire (i.link or DV) and DC power jacks are different. Page 69 of your manual. There's a power jack on the cam itself but not FW/DV.

Although, looking at the DCR-HC32 manual, it appears to have a DC IN jack is located both on the docking station and the camcorder, the DV interface is located on only the docking station. Pre docking Sony consumer camcorders can be operated without a battery as long as AC adapter is connected.

Therefore, I won’t venture to state positively, but your Sony camcorder may operate, similarly.
