Unable how? You have to be much more specific. What are your settings, what steps are you taking and what is the result?
Both Premiere and Vegas should certainly work with no problem. You may need to simply copy the files to your PC first and then import, either with a simple drag and drop or with the Sony utility.
As always, make sure all your settings match.

I connect the camcorder and open sony vegas and do capture and it doesnt recodnise the cam.
Sony utility works to transfer the .m2ts and i can use PMB to convert to .wmv or .mpg.
now i tried to import the .m2ts to adobe premiere - it didnt work ... Sony vegas does take .m2ts but it is very slow and choppy/laggy on the playback making it too hard to work with. However .mpg works fine to work with sony vegas..... do you guys work with the .m2ts or the .mpg?? logically i would assume the .m2ts since it has more data to work with and not compressed but the computer or program can't take it and i have a pentium D 3ghz dual core with 4gb ram and a geforce 6800...
anything im doing wrong? thanks.

M2ts is mpeg and is already extremely heavily compressed. If you can convert to mpg do that and try importing into Premiere. It should work fine.
I can't imagine why Vegas wouldn't recognize your cam, without knowing the settings both in Vegas and in the cam.
Sounds like you may have a hardware issue if you have poor playback. I had a P4 3.2GHz and while it was fine for DV, it was way underpowered for HDV.

playback in vegas with .m2ts file is not good at all... however .mpg works smooth and no problem.... so it is no problem if i work with .mpg for editing right?
about the capture... i have no problem at all using PMB to capture and then convert the .m2ts to .mpg -- and then load the .mpg to vegas and work from there. I was just wondering if there was a difference between working with .m2ts and .mpg but if you say it is the same then that is great news.

I'm not a Vegas expert but my understanding is that those are just different flavors of the same thing. Try the whole process with a short insignificant project to make sure it works.
