HV A1E - Sony VCT-80AV Tripod

I have an HV A1E and a Sony VCT-80AV Tripod. The plug on the end of the remote commander of the tripod is an a/v type. The only a/v socket on the HV A1E is on body. When I plug the a/v tripod remote into the a/v camcorder socket and engae the power on switch on the tripod remote....nothing happens. On my other tripod, the reote plug is a mini jack and fits into the Lanc sockets on the camcorder and works perfectly.
The A1E also has a Lanc socket but the plug on the tripod remote only fits the a/v socket. Do I have to buy a converter commector from a/v to lanc or is there something I should do to make the whole thing work with the a/v as they are. The guide book of the A1E carries no information on linking an external commander from a tripod to the camcorder.

Any advice will be most appreciated.

Yes, you most likely need a converter cable to go from the AV on the tripod to the LANC on the cam. LANC via AV is most likely not enabled on the A1, as it is on newer models.

I'd just Google LANC cable and see what comes up.
