Transfering HF200 footage to computer

Does anyone else think it's a pain in the rear to transfer footage from the Canon HF200 to your computer? I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS and all I have to do when I want to transfer footage is plug in the USB cord. The computer sees it 100% of the time. For this camcorder? I have to:

1) Have it hooked up to the power adapter (it's hard enough finding an empty outlet near your computer).
2) Have the camera in playback mode.
3) Install special software (ImageMixer) and make sure it's running.
4) Plug in the USB cable after all this.

And EVEN when you do all this, the computer doesn't recognize the cam 100% of the time.

Is it supposed to be this difficult to transfer footage from the HF200?
