Sony DCR HC51E fault

Hi All,
I hope I am in the correct forum section, apologies if not.

The cassette door appears to try to open whilst the camcorder is switched off.
Removing the battery is a cure but failing to do so results in a flat battery.
I wonder if this is a known fault (with an easy solution :0)
