Recommend software to convert AVCHD to mpeg2 or mpeg4
I'm getting a high definition camcorder today (refurbished Canon HG10), and would like suggestions about good software, preferably free, to use for conversion, so I can view AVCHD on my computer, easily edit, or upload to websites. Recommendations appreciated! Thanks!

Why convert? The conversion always lower video quality.
AVCHD is nice. Why sacrafice the video quality. If you want to trim out the unwanted scenes out, there are frame accurate 'smart rendering' apps out there, quick cutting and reserving video quality, like Smart Mate for DV and DVB. It not only edits AVCHD, but also browses, thumbs, manages your AVCHD and photos.
