Hi, I reciently purchased a SHARP digital video camera (Model VL-AX1)in Singapore. On returning to my country, (South Africa), I find there is no support for SHARP products here.
I have a small problem, which I hope somebody can help me with.

The Camera comes with a 8MB SD card for capturing stills. I have purchased a larger SD card (64MB SanDisk) for use with the above mentioned video camera, however after installing it, I attempted to format the card, but don’t know if I was successful or not. After selecting the format option on the menu & answering yes to the “All data will be erased” message, the camera screen appeared to freeze.
After this format attempt, when taking a picture, the camera gives a message “No memory card”.
If I replace the 8MB card it seems to work perfectly.
The 64MB card works when it is placed into another camera.

You need to read back through the book and than try to reformat the card again. For general information most cards do not need to be formated prior to use.

Just saw your message and realised that you've had the same problem as myself. I'm toying with the idea to buy the Sharp VL-AX1 but cannot find any dealers in Switzerland to either supply it or to demonstrate it. It's possible to buy on-line from Germany at the price of about USD 1,000.--, but without seeing or being able to try the model first I'm a little unsure.

The main thing which attracted me to the Sharpo VL-AX1 is the 23X optical zoom plus the external zoom microphone.

Would appreciate to have your comments, advice and experiences with this model. Please advise.
