Underwater Housing for HD10
Does anyone know if anybody makes a underwater housing for the HD10. Im interested in shooting some underwater footage and I thought I read somewhere in a press release that this camera had a housing available for it.

We carry 2 different underwater enclosures. The EWA-marine model is essentially a heavy-duty plastic container that seals and has an optical glass front. It's good to 30ft. About $400 or $35 per day. For hard-core divers we carry the Ikelite. Heavy duty all the way around, cast aluminum and 3/4in formed composite. Good to 250ft. Perfect foe NationalGeo shoots. About $1250 or $100 per day. There may be others we don't carry but theses 2 usually can get the job done. Rob 818-526-0101

is the ikelite specifically for this camera or is it more of a generic housing for other cameras?

Fits several
The Ikelite was originally designed for the VX2000 and PD150 but with only a minor adjustment the similarly-dimentioned HD10 aligns with the front lens port and control group well.

JVC makes a "marine case" for their consumer version of the camera. It works great for the 10U up to 30m.
Order part number WR-HD1.

When I was last down at Gates Housings in San Diego a few months back, John (owner) had just received one of these cameras from JVC and said he was going to start building a housing for it. Don't know what the status is on this.

I MUST HAVE 1 (OR 2)
The JVC enclosure WR-HD1 is an A++ suggestion, and by the looks of it really nice. I tried Googling around to buy some but can't find a dealer. Please advise. Not that it really matters, but how much are they? They don't appear in the JVC Pro price lists. Is it from consumer division?

From the looks of the WR-HD1 you would have to come up with a custom solution for a red filter, can anyone verify this.It looks like things are pretty tight in this case, so that may not even be an option.
Also - looks like Gates is going forward with their case and should have a prototype for DEMA (next week).

Whats wrong with this one?
http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/jvc_hd1.html
Id add that it includes a red filter. BTW, if anyone out there has any sample footage underwater with this camera, I'd LOVE to see it. I'm seriously considering taking the plunge (HD1+ikelite) on this before my next trip. I'm trying to imagine what soft coral like fiji's would look like.

I like Ikelite housings, but I don't think this one is worth it if you are going to make an investment in the JVC cam. The housing lacks white balance and doesn't appear to support an external monitor (or flip-out monitor). I'd probably go with the Gates on this one.
