16:9 on TRV-900

Hi
Is the 16:9 mode on TRV-900 a true 16:9 feature or does it just crop the top and bottom portions and pull the image horizontally. I'm unable to judge this as I find that in 16:9 mode there is some cropping, accompanied by 16:9 kind of streching etc.

Re: 16:9 on TRV-900

If the image is pulled horizontally then it is a true 16:9 image.

16:9 function is for widescreen televisions so the image has true proportions.

Most sony cams have a true widescreen my trv27 does, trv900? not sure.

if you want the balck bars on the cams that strech the image you will have to use editing software.

Re: 16:9 on TRV-900

The 16:9 mode on the TRV-900 is produced by cropping the 4:3 image, therefore you are losing resolution. Instead of gaining horizontal resolution (854x480), you are losing vertical resolution (720x405). In fact, it is porbably the worst form of 16:9 available on dv cameras. Other brands, including Canon, also crop to produce a 16:9 image, however they compress the video after the cropping, therefore boosting the quality of the croppped image. I love my TRV900, however Sony could definitely improve on the 16:9 aspect ratio! I hope this helps.
