September 12, 2006 - Adobe Systems Incorporated announced two upgrades to its consumer-oriented digital photo and video applications, Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for Windows and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows. The upgrade will more closely integrate the two products’ functionality, allowing the use of effects and features across the applications.
Newly integrated features of the two programs include the addition of video effects and transitions to slideshows, and the application of text and picture editing tools to video stills. The integration of photo editing tools with Premiere appear to be focused on the DVD authoring process, though edited stills can also be re-inserted into a video timeline.
A new Monitor window has been added to Adobe Premiere Elements, serving as a simplified editing interface, and effects and transitions can be dragged and dropped directly onto the window. Adobe has also added a clip assembly timeline called Sceneline that shows each clip as a key-framed thumbnail. Sceneline resembles the clip view timeline option in Apple’s iMovie consumer NLE. Additional features include support for iPod and mobile phone video export.
The latest release of Photoshop Elements includes a suite of features focused on the creation of online photo sharing and photo gallery creation and a simplified user interface.
Adobe’s Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements will be available separately for an estimated $99.99 each, or in a bundled package for an estimated $149.99 in October 2006.
