January 17, 2006 - Today Adobe announced the release of Premiere Pro 2.0, the lasted edition to their successful non-linear video editing program. Chief among its changes is native support for HD and HDV, as well as Flash video.
The announcement came amid similar updates for After Effects 7.0, Audition 2.0, Encore 2.0, and the new Adobe Production Studio, a software suite which combines all these programs, plus Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2.
As with all the updates, Adobe has concentrated on “tighter integration with other Adobe applications to provide a more efficient workflow,” according to Jim Guerard, vice president of product management, Web and Video Solutions. The company has focused on removing bottlenecks in projects that involve multiple programs. Dynamic Link, when used as part of the Adobe Production Studio, allows users to make changes and see their effects in each program without immediate rendering. Adobe Bridge, included with Production Studio or with standalone Premiere Pro purchases, is an XMP metadata-enabled visual file browser designed for organizing files across the entire video editing suite.
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 will support all major video formats, including uncompressed high definition (HD) footage, as well as native support for the AJA Xena HS real time encoding card. HDV content can be edited in real time without conversion.
Adobe has also released Audition 2.0, an update on their software for mixing, editing, mastering, and restoring digital audio. The new version includes a new low-latency mixing engine, making real time changes possible. It also includes new tools for audio visualization and frequency space editing. Like Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe Audition 2.0 is available as a standalone product or as part of Adobe Production Studio Premium edition.

Adobe Audition 2.0 supports ASIO drivers, flexible routing with sends and busses, punch-ins on the fly, unlimited tracks, and can record up to 80 simultaneous live inputs.
Adobe Audition 2.0 for Windows XP is available in its full version for US$349. As an upgrade, it sells for US$129.
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 is available for Windows XP for US$849 in its full version, and US$199 for the upgrade.
