August Film Festivals

Posted by John Neely

Summer is a great time to hit a local film festival – and a great way to keep cool! There are festivals galore around the world this summer, but I’m going to mention just a few here in the states.

If you’re in or around New York at the end of the month, the Fourth Annual Central Park Film Festival is a great way to see some classic films under the stars, including Fatal Attraction and The Apartment. The festival runs from Tuesday, August 29 through Saturday, September 2, and all screenings begin at 8:00 pm

Another New York festival that anyone can attend is the online New York Minute Film Festival. The films may not all be brilliant, but they are short – and you may find a gem or two. Best of all, you can watch all the films from the comfort of your own cubicle: www.newyorkminutefilmfestival.com

Colorado is home to some great film festivals including the renowned Telluride International Film Festival over Labor Day weekend www.telluridefilmfestival.org, and the low key Crested Butte Reelfest which runs from August 9-13. www.cbreelfest.com

Meanwhile, LA is host to the 10th Annual Docuweek showcase of documentary films. It’s one of the documentary film world’s premiere events, and this year’s line-up looks to be as strong as ever. Screenings run from August 18th-24th More information is available from the International Documentary Association at www.documentary.org

If you can’t make it to one of the festivals below, www.filmfestivals.com is an excellent resource that lets you search for festivals using a variety of filters.
