February 9, 2006 - The perfect one-minute video may now garner you a trip to Las Vegas, as Avid yesterday announced their 60 Second Video Contest.

Said Steve Chazin, director of education and new markets at Avid, “The talent pool of people who can tell their stories with video is skyrocketing. This contest is a way for Avid to connect with young, inventive artists, acknowledge their work, and give them an opportunity to mingle with some of the most influential content creation professionals in the industry.”

Avid Technology, Inc., a manufacturer of nonlinear editing suites for video, film, and audio production, is looking for submissions that reflect something the contestants are passionate, or “avid,” about.

Avid will select six winners to receive Avid Express Pro software. The software system will come with both Mac and Windows versions so users can continue to edit on the platform of their choice. The grand prize winner will also win a trip to Las Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Postproduction World conventions – which run April 21st through the 24th - with paid airfare, a hotel for three nights, and access to Avid customer events.

There are a few rules. Avid has restricted the age range from 18-35 years old. The rules also state that Canadian videographers may possibly be required to “answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question as a condition of claiming a prize.” The meaning and potential ramifications for our friends north of the border is yet unclear.

Avid is reserving the right to limit their viewing to the first 500 entrants, with deadline of March 15th. Go to avid.com for complete rules and information.
