Audio Features
The Canon HF S10 has a solid set of audio features for a consumer camcorder. Right off the bat, you have a 1/8-inch (mini) microphone jack located on the right side. A jack on the rear doubles as AV-output and a headphone-out. There's also the accessory shoe on top, though be aware that it's a proprietary Canon shoe, so your old accessories may not fit.
In the menu, you'll find a number of options for controlling the audio. An Audio Level Indicator can be seen in the lower portion of the screen to simply monitor levels. You can also option the multi-function dial to control audio levels. There are also on/off controls for a Mic Attenuator and Windscreen. Finally, to calibrate audio, the HF S10 produces a test tone.
