September 4, 2006 - Sources at Engadget and Heise Online are reporting on closed door meetings at the IFA electronics show in Berlin with JVC and a new Everio high definition camcorder. In addition to a tease photo, early specs indicate that the camcorder will shoot in full 1080i, 1920 x 1080 at 50i (PAL) and/or 60i (NTSC), with a 3-CCD configuration.

The Everio series of camcorders captures video and stills to an internal hard drive. The current top of the line model, the JVC GZ-MG505, comes equipped with a 30GB hard drive. The capacity for the rumored new HD Everio has not been stated. Heise Online also states that the camcorder will have a manual focus, and the image indicates that it is a ring control. According to the article, it is scheduled for a release in the first half of 2007.

If the rumors prove true, it will mark JVC’s long-awaited re-entrance into the consumer HD market after the critically derided GR-HD1 was released in June 2003. Sony led the pack with the HDR-HC1 in mid-2005, followed up with the HDR-HC3 early his year, and then a double-shot of camcorders sporting the new AVCHD format, the HDR-UX1 and the HDR-SR1. Just last month Canon announced the HV10, their first model in the market. Panasonic has yet to release a consumer HD camcorder, though the AVCHD format was jointly developed by them and Sony, and it is only a matter of time until they too have AVCHD camcorders.
