In this Lesson, you will wrap up the project and export it to a DV tape.
We can export any Sequence, or our Master Sequence, using Digital Cut. If you are going to export using a Master Sequence, you need to Copy and Paste each Sequence into the Master Sequence.

1.   Select the Sequence to be exported and press home.

2.   Select all Tracks: V2, V1, A1, and A2.

3.   Issue Clip > Add Filler at Start command to put 30-seconds of black and silence into the Timeline.

4.   Press home.

5.   Click the Composer Mark In button

6.   Press end.

7.   Click the Composer Mark Out button.

8.   Issue the Clip > Render In/Out… command.

9.   If there are effects to render, click OK, otherwise click Cancel.

10.   Issue the Clip > Digital Cut command. The digital Cut Tool will pop-up.

11.   In the Digital Cut tool, click both Entire Sequence and Add Black at Tail (set to 30:00) buttons.

12.   Click Record to start recording. Recording will stop when complete.

Let’s summarize how we use Avid’s Editing Modes
·     Non-segment—default when you open a Sequence
·     Segment: Extract/Splice-in
·     Segment: Lift/Overwrite
·     Trim mode

1.   To minimize our use of modes, we stayed in the yellow Segment: Extract/Splice-in mode as much as possible.

2.   To enter Non-segment, we simply click-exit out of either Segment mode.

3.   When we want to enter Trim mode, we right-to-left lasso a cut point(s).

I hope you have enjoyed working with FreeDV. Considering it’s price, and the fact that it runs on both PCs and Macs, unless you need more audio tracks you may want to stay with FreeDV.

If you want to switch to more powerful NLE, the obvious choice is Avid’s Express Pro. It is available for both Macs and PCs.

If you are a PC user and plan to edit HDV and/or AVCHD, I strongly recommend EDIUS 4.5 (www.canopus.com/products/EDIUSPro/index.php). You’ll find the transition to EDIUS easy to make.

Here’s a screenshot of EDIUS 4.5.
