June 19, 2006 - Focus Enhancements, the media storage and management manufacturer, announced last week plans to develop a new series of FireStore devices for the Canon XL H1 (Specs, Recent News, $7947.89). The FS-C line of Direct-to-Edit hard disk recorders, in 60GB and 100GB versions, will capture both HD and SD footage.
FireStore devices connect directly to camcorders for live, realtime digital capture via a FireWire connection without the need for tape. The new FS-C series captures HD video in .m2t files, and DV in files compatible with Avid OMF, QuickTime, Canopus AVI, Matrox AVI, and more.
The FS-C series is not Focus Enhancement’s first FireStore device for an HD camcorder. Earlier this year they released the FS-100 (approx. US$1800) for use with the Panasonic AG-HVX200. A similar model is due out soon for the JVC GY-HD100 (approx. US$1650).

The FS-C60 (the 60GB version) captures approximately 4 1/2 hours of 1080i HD or DV25 footage. The FS-C100 can store about 7 1/2 hours. Both models are expected to have a July 2006 release date. No prices have been announced.
