From the viral experts: What makes a good video

Posted by Karen M Cheung

Since the relaunch of the CamcorderInfo.com Blog in December, we have been focusing around online video and asking the experts, “What makes a good viral video?” Hear what successful video producers have to say about producing good content from our exclusive interviews.

1. Keep it short.
“I think the biggest problem with online videos is that people aren't disciplined enough to keep them short. Unless you're video is really outstanding, people won't watch a video that's over two or three minutes in length.”
-Hugh Atkins, Changes video (Q&A Interview)

2. Upload to YouTube for traffic.
“There is no rivaling YouTube. I tried uploading to a variety of sites for a long time, but I haven’t been able to find such an active, prolific audience beyond YouTube. YouTube probably represents about 90 percent of the views I get.”
- Kevin Nalts, Video Producer and Blogger of WillVideoforFood (Interview)
8th most viewed YouTube Comedian of All Time

3. Upload to Revver for making money.
“We have been known to use other sites here and there, but so far, Revver just seems to have the best quality up-load. [It] is super easy to embed on other sites and actually cuts you in on the profits they make from hits.”
- The Vacationeers, Google Maps video (Q&A Interview)

4. Add music.

“Narration can work too for some kinds of video I think, but for the kind of work we do, music is critical. And even if your primary soundtrack is narration, I'd think about putting a music bed of some kind in addition.”
- Stephen Voltz of EepyBird.com (Mentos Guys Interview)
