Google Makes YouTube its Own Category

Googlers will notice a new category on the search engine’s home page. Pull the drop-down menu “more,” and you will find that underneath Blogs, Books, Photos, and Video, is now YouTube as its own, separate category. YouTube’s climb to the “more” section is clearly Google’s way of promoting its video-sharing site that was acquired in 2006. While the move demonstrates the growing power of YouTube, it doesn’t make much sense to put two different “Video” and “YouTube” sections. Users who want a pre-filtered database would choose YouTube. Otherwise, most users would simply choose Video for their viewing needs. Pick one or the other, Google.
