Ikegami says Move over P2
Posted by Adam Nielson
High end TV and studio camera maker Ikegami announced Monday, plans to launch a new flash based digital media format for use in it's product line. Partnering on the deal is electronics giant Toshiba, who helped develop the technology. The two companies are gunning for an end to end solution and from the sound of things, even plan to announce their own editing system. Of course all will be revealed at next week's National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas.Ikegami hasn't made a peep about pricing, but when we saw the date of this release, our coincidence meter went off. Turns out, it's the same day Panasonic announced the price drop for their 8GB P2 cards. Clearly the P2 and the new Iky cards will be competing with one another, and the price drop on Panasonic's flash technology could be either preemptive, or reactionary. Either way, we fully expect this new flash based format to be on level with the P2 where pricing is concerned. Technorati Tags:
