January 7, 2009 – JVC has doubled its line of standard definition camcorders that record to solid state memory, announcing today the GZ-MS120 ($299 MSRP) and GZ-MS130 ($349 MSRP). The GZ-MS120 offers two SD/SDHC memory card slots—the first of its kind—while the GZ-MS130 has a single card slot and 16GB of internal flash memory. The camcorders come in multiple colors and are expected to ship in February.

The popularity of flash memory camcorders has grown over the past two years, and JVC is not expected to be the only manufacturer to expand its line in this category. Last year, JVC offered the GZ-MS100 as its first foray into solid state camcorders.

All of the JVC camcorders for 2009 include several new features, much of them focusing on file management and sharing. With included software (PC-only), video clips can be exported directly to iTunes for increased compatibility on iPods and iPhones. The software also allows for upload to YouTube across all new models. Last year, only the GZ-MS100 offered this feature. Another component of the software is a calendar-view of clips, intended to make search and sort easier.

Built into all new JVC camcorders is a new feature called Digest Playback, which scans across all the recorded footage and creates a "coming attractions" reel using proprietary software. More than just a random assemblage, JVC claims that the tool performs a smart scan in order to find appropriate moments.

To archive video, all new camcorders include a one-touch back-up tool to JVC's line of Share Station DVD burners.

The GZ-MS120 is available in black, blue, and red. The GZ-MS130 is in black only. Both ship in February 2009.
