JVC GZ-HD6 arrives today, complete with engineers

Add one more camcorder to the review roster. Today JVC representatives visited our offices with the new GZ-HD6 in hand. Our doors are open for any manufacturer that wants to visit and learn more about how we review, and JVC was not the first. However, we’re always happy when they come with camcorder in hand.

Here’s a photo gallery of the new high def GZ-HD6, follow-up to the GZ-HD7 and GZ-HD3. We’re looking forward to testing some of the interesting new features, such as the 1080/60P output (converted from the recorded 1080/60i, which is turn was converted from the original 1080/60P capture – simple!). JVC also states that a number of improvements were made that were not specified in the press briefs. Here’s a few claims we’ll be putting to the test:

  • While the GZ-HD6 (and near-identical GZ-HD5) have the same lens, imaging chips, and processor as their predecessors, the algorithms have been tweaked to produce a better color in the cyan range and better dynamic range

  • The video resolution should be marginally better than before

  • The Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) has been overhauled with new hardware and new software for improved frequency response and dynamic range

Look for the Canon HF10, JVC GZ-HD6, and Panasonic HDC-HS9 reviews to come out soon, with a possible shoot-out to follow. The Panasonic HDC-SD9, another competitor in this category, is already live.
