September 29, 2006 - Today, JVC of Japan announced some additional details concerning their upcoming Everio HD hard disk drive camcorder. The company plans to outfit the camcorder with a Fujinon lens, a first for their consumer line. They also gave additional specs on the imaging system, which will use three 1/5” CCDs, each measuring 1016 x 558.
The Everio HD camcorder was first teased at the IFA electronics show in Berlin earlier this month. JVC has yet to make an official roll-out for the product, though anticipation is high. JVC has not has a consumer HD camcorder on the market since the GR-HD1 in 2003. According to today’s news, the new camcorder employs pixel shifting to produce a full 1920 x 1080 image. The camcorder, which has yet to be named, actually records 1080p, but will output a 1080i signal.
The Fujinon lens, which was previously reserved for broadcast quality camcorders, will feature an “Electronic Beam Coating,” meant to decrease ghosting and “harmful flare” (translation by Google).
The new camcorder is expected to be on display at CEATEC in Japan next week.
