JVC Unleashes GZ-HD7 HD Everio Camcorder in Japan
Posted by John Neely
The JVC HD Everio, shown last month at CES in Las Vegas created quite a stir, and the company was tight-lipped when it came to details on the much-anticipated camcorder. We were able to get our hands on a non-working model (well, we weren’t actually supposed to touch it…but our intrepid staff writer James Murray managed to get his paws on the unit JVC turned their back for a few moments…) and found out enough to produce a First Impressions Review, albeit with some major gaps. Well, the company has now announced the availability of this 1920x1080i HDD powerhouse in Japan, and that means some more details on the unit have been released.Mac users will be gratified to know that while the HD7 ships with a decent suite of PC-only software from CyberLink, a plug-in will allow compatibility with Final Cut Pro and iMovie. JVC has also released specs on the new Broadcast HD Fujinon Lens, and some background on the 30Mbps MPEG-2 codec they chose to go with. Stay tuned for a news piece on the JVC GZ-HD7 later today. In the meantime, this Animated presentation from JVC Japan on the HD7 is priceless. The link opens a page in Japanese, so in case you're language-challenged, click the blue link at lower left.
