August 31, 2006 –JVC Americas Corp., the wholly owned subsidiary of Victor Company of Japan (JVC) in charge of US operations, announced the appointment of Mike Saito as the President of JVC Company of America and Vice President of JVC Americas Corp. The appointment will be effective September 1, 2006. Saito’s new position was announced by Shigeharu Tsuchitani, Chairman, JVC Americas Corp.
Saito has served JVC in a number of capacities, most recently as Associate Director of Victor Company of Japan's Portable AV Business Group. Previously, he was Senior Manager for International Sales and Marketing with Victor's AV & Multimedia Company. Early in his career, Saito held two posts at JVC Company of America, as a Manager with the Consumer Video Division, and later as Vice President of Marketing for JVC Company of America.
As President of JVC Company of America, Saito will oversee of JVC’s consumer product operations for the United States market, which has been on shaky ground as of late.
It was only in July that Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co. Ltd., which has a controlling interest in JVC, installed their own new President, Fumio Ohbsuto. JVC has posted opertating losses in the recent past, and one of Ohbsuto's chief tasks was to put JVC back on target. Stating his policy less than a month ago, Ohbsuto said that Matsushita would remain hands-off and let JVC find a solution on their own.
In what seemed to be a response, JVC announced plans to increase production of recordable DVDs, with a goal of 4.5 million discs per month by the end of the year. Today's announcement of a management shakeup in JVC Company of America indicates that the company may want new blood in addition to new production plans.
