December 14, 2006 – Today, JVC Japan announced the GR-D750, a new MiniDV camcorder featuring 34x zoom. With the price yet to be determined, it looks to be an entry-level mode and offers few surprises beyond a redesigned navigation system. Neither this camcorder nor an overseas counterpart has been announced for the US market.

Potentially the best improvement on the GR-D750 is the improved control system. The 4-way touch pad control found on 2006 MiniDV models has been replaced with a joystick on LCD panel, similar to the one found on 2006 Everio camcorders. The redesign should offer better handing by keeping the control device in the user’s line of sight rather than in the LCD cavity.

The GR-D750 comes equipped with a 34x optical zoom, making it the highest zoom power to date. A 200x digital zoom is also available. The camcorder offers an F2.0 – 4.7 lens with a focal range of 44mm – 1496mm. JVC’s “Data Battery” feature displays the remaining recording time on the battery. The CCD measures 1/6” with a gross pixel count of 680K (340K effective). A 2.7” LCD (112K resolution), a 0.33” EVF (113K resolution), and electronic image stabilization round out the feature set.

Ports on the GR-D750 include AV-out and DV in/out. Extended life batteries are also available for separate purchase.

Though no price has been announced for the GR-D750, JVC has stated that sales should begin in January 2007.
