May 29, 2006 - Today Kenko released the DVC-306, a MPEG4 camcorder that captures to SD card or 32MB of internal memory. A 2GB card can hold up to 720 minutes of video. Available in red, white, or blue, the tiny DVC-306 also shoots 3MP stills.

Joining the expanding ranks of the “toy cam” class, the DVC-306 is intended to serve triple duty as a camcorder, camera, and MP3 player. It uses a CMOS imaging chip with 3.3 gross (3.14 effective) megapixels. The video resolution is 640 x 480 with a rather poor frame rate of 20fps. There is no optical zoom on the unit, only a 4x digital zoom.

The 8.34mm F3.0 lens has a fixed focal length. Additional features include a 1.5 inch TFT display, a still flash, and exposure compensation of +/- 2EV. The unit measures 90 x 70 x 37mm and weighs only 137g.

Kenko has priced the DVC-306 at 20,000 yen (approximately $170US), and it appears to only be available in Japan as of this date. More information can be found at the DCV-306 product page.
