Kodak Offering Gold DVD Media
Looks like gold is definitely in this season for DVDs: several companies have announced gold archival recordable CD and DVD media, and now Kodak is getting in on the act with their Preservation CD/DVD range. They claim that their new discs will hold data for hundreds of years, so your great-great-great-great-grandchild will be able to see your audition for a reality show and wonder how we ever managed to survive as a species. Of course, he might be right to wonder, as by then the earth will probably be a radioactive cinder, so it might all be a bit pointless. But just in case I’m wrong, Kodak has tested the CDs to last for 300 years and the DVDs to last 80 to 100 years with proper storage and handling.
