Laser Shortage May Hold Back Launch of High Def DVD Players
Posted by Richard Baguley
It looks like one of the major components of both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players may be in short supply: this article in the trade journal DigitTimes claims that there is a shortage of the laser that the players use to read the discs. This won’t mean the players will disappear, but it may mean that prices will stay high until the shortage is fixed sometime early next year. It may also force some manufacturers to forgo launching new products until then: if they can’t get the lasers, they can’t build the players. [Via Crunchgear]
