Leaked: Sony to Launch HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7 HDD, and HDR-CX7 Flash Camcorders?

Posted by John Neely

April 24, 2007 - This morning, Engadget published photographs of what appears to be a Sony UK brochure detailing specs of three yet to be announced HD camcorders.  Two of the camcorders in the leaked photographs - the HDR-SR5 and HDR-SR7 - are follow-ups to the HDR-SR1, Sony's first HDD-based AVCHD camcorder.  If the information in these brochures turns out to be accurate, the new SR5 and SR7 would follow in the footsteps of Sony's other HD announcements, adding some features, including better sensors - but losing others, including the much-loved Cam Control ring seen on the HDR-SR1.

A new flash-based HD camcorder is also on the way.  The HDR-CX7 which also uses AVCHD compression would be Sony's first volley into the high definition/flash media arena, currently dominated by rival Panasonic.  That company just launched the consumer HDC-SD1 and its pro counterpart, the AG-HSC1U (Review, Specs, Recent News, $1975) models.

As of this time, Sony has made no official announcements regarding the HDR-SR5, HDR-SR7, or HDR-CX7 shown in this morning's Engadget story.
