 Fujio Mitarai, the CEO & President of Canon is speaking at the Canon Expo in New York right now. Our intrepid correspondents at the show will be passing us the information he reveals, especially any insight to the forthcoming Canon HDV camcorder. I’ll update this page as the information is passed to me…4:15PM EST: Todd Pike, Senior Vice President of Imaging Systems takes the stage. There are 1,132 people at the event.
4:17PM : Fujio Mitarai, President and CEO of Canon takes the stage. He claims that Canon is "now battling for the top position in the video market."
4:25PM : Mr Mitarai is disussing the financial situation at Canon. Suffice to say, it doesn't sound like they are going bust anytime soon.
4:30PM: "We are putting all our effort into digital and networking technology" So much for analog camcorders, then...
4:35PM: Mitarai discusses the past innovations of Canon, such as the SD100 Digital Elph.
4:40PM: Mitarai discusses financing and Globalization: this is a dealer event, after, all..
4:45PM : He claims that they are "entering a new world of digital imaging", and that they are entering the display business, with three new technologies: surface-conduction electron-emitter displays, projection displays and OLED displays, developed with Toshiba.
4:55: And we have confirmation for HDV: "In the digital video camcorder we will introduce models that will support the HDV standard that will support high definition video recording" Does that mean we will see more than one model?
And that's it. We'll be live blogging the press briefing tomorrow where we expect to get more details on the HDV camcorders.
