January 30th, 2006 - NVIDIA today announced the release of the Quadro FX 4500 SDI, a live-to-air graphics processor, which is the latest in a line of fully integrated graphics-to-video options which use uncompressed Serial Digital Interface (SDI) output from programmable graphics. This technology, aimed at big-budget broadcast operations like network and cable TV news, allows programmers to incorporate 3D broadcast graphics and virtual sets during live programming.

The FX 4500 SDI is able to both generate and output standard and high definition (HD) television programming in real time. It can also engage in non-linear editing practices, content creation, and color grading, all at a rate which NVIDIA states will show a 50% improvement over the previous SDI solution.

According to Jeff Brown, General Manager for NVIDIA Professional Products, “Support for output of uncompressed SDI in 2K, HD, or SD formats on both Windows and Linux allows users to render stunning video content in real time and deliver material in final form more quickly with stunning visual quality.”

The graphics and virtual set solution company Brainstorm, which for 15 years has produced 3D graphics for both multi media and broadcast companies, also had a hand in the production of this technology. Other companies working with NVIDIA technology include software vendors like Adobe, Avid, PVI, and DaVinci.

Quadro SDI products are currently available through PNY Technologies in the US. For more information, visit the NVIDIA website.
