New Blu-Ray Authoring Software from Sony

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the development of the new Blu-Ray and HD-DVD high def DVD formats, you may have wondered about how the pros author the discs: how do they create the fancy menus and interactive games that the new discs use? Well, there are a number of high-end applications for the pros that can do this (such as Sonic Scenarist), and Sony has just announced their Blu-ray authoring application. It’s called Blu-print, and Sony claims that it allows full use of all of the fancy stuff that Blu-ray discs can do, including creating popup menus, multi-angle video and Java games and interactive applications. But, at $50,000 per license, it’s definitely a professional application. It isn’t listed on the Sony Media Software Web site yet, but it should be up there soon.
