March 13, 2006 - Last week at CeBIT, the technology show in Hanover, Germany, Panasonic revealed plans to release 4GB Secure Digital (SD) cards by the summer which will conform to the SD High Capacity (SDHC) specifications.
The cards, according to sources from The Register, Adorama, and others, are expected to be Class 2 products, capable of a 2Mbps. The SDHC specs, also known as the SD 2.0 standard, have minimum sustained data rates of 2, 4, and 6 Mbps. The new standard is expected to allow for capacities up to 32MB. 4GB SD cards are already available in the SD 1.1 standard.
Panasonic has not given any information on pricing, and has been no more specific than a summer release date.
