January 9, 2009 – Today at CES, Panasonic announced the expansion of its standard definition lineup with three new solid state memory camcorders: the SDR-S15, SDR-S26, and SDR-SW21. All three camcorders are being targeted at the entry-level consumer—key features include affordable prices, compact designs, and multiple colors.
The SDR-SW21 comes as a replacement to last year's SDR-SW20, Panasonic's waterproof camcorder. As with the SW20, the SW21 is designed for an active lifestyle and can supposedly withstand a 4-foot drop and be submerged in 6.5 feet of water. The SDR-SW21 will include Panasonic's Quick Start mode, which makes it easier for consumers to capture spontaneous moments. It will also feature options for facilitating video sharing. Consumers will be able to upload to YouTube, although only video recorded in the low quality 'Web Mode' will be compatible with this feature. All video will be compatible with Panasonic's DVD burner, which can be connected to the camcorder via USB for easy DVD creation.
The SDR-S15 will include the same sharing capabilities with YouTube and DVD burning, but will also feature Panasonic's improved Intelligent Auto (iA) technologies. This includes Face Detection and Scene Detection, which prompts the camcorder to select the most appropriate scene mode for you.
