November 12, 2008 – Pure Digital announced today that it has expanded its popular Flip series to include a high definition model, the Flip MinoHD. The Flip Ultra and Flip Mino continue to outsell their competition in the ultra-compact YouTube camcorder market, but until now the series was only able to record standard definition video. Not to be outdone, the MinoHD is joining the ranks of the Kodak Zi6 and RCA Small Wonder HD, two similar camcorders that also record in 720p.
While none of these ultra-compact camcorders have had the video performance to match more traditional high definition camcorders from major manufacturers, they do deliver on the promise of affordable, easy, and convenient video recording. So far, the Flip series has had the most success in both providing simplicity and winning over consumers. The Flip MinoHD will continue Pure Digital's successful formula by offering the same bare bones interface, sleek design, and intuitive software for editing video and uploading to YouTube. The personalization platform launched last month will be expanded to include the Flip MinoHD, allowing consumers to order a customized camcorder with professional artwork, user-generated designs, or even personal drawings and photographs.
Although the main draw for ultra-compact camcorders has historically been the YouTube market, the ability to record 720p high definition video will appeal to consumers with other destinations in mind. YouTube currently only supports standard definition video, but sites that can host HD video—like Vimeo—are becoming increasingly popular.
The Flip MinoHD is available today from TheFlip.com and various retailers for an MSRP of $229.99.
