Results Of Camcorder Format Poll

Posted by Richard Baguley

Here are the results of our poll on what format your next camcorder will be: HDV was the clear winner with 35.1% of the vote. However, AVCHD made a surprisingly strong showing: if you combine the figures for the three storage options (DVD, hard drive and flash memory), 28.9% of you will be buying an AVCHD device as your next camcorder. Given that you still can’t edit the footage, I find this a little surprising; I guess that people are looking to shoot HD footage and don’t mind waiting for the ability to edit it.

MiniDV may be no longer the coolest technology, but it doesn’t seem to be dead yet: 16.1% of you are looking to get a MiniDV camcorder next, even though the price of HDV camcorders continues to fall. What do you think of the survey results? Do you agree with the majority, or will you be a VHS-C camcorder user until they pry it from your cold, dead hands?
