June 5, 2008 – Sanyo unveiled a new camcorder today, the Xacti HD1010. This HD camcorder sports the same ultra-compact, upright design of its Xacti predecessors, and records in full 1920 x 1080 interlaced video. The HD1010 retails for $799 is the set to begin shipping in July.

The Sanyo Xacti HD1010 up the ante over previous generations by offering a new slow motion mode, which can record up to 300 frames per second. Sony popularized a similar feature two years ago, which has become a staple of its HD line-up. Unlike Sony, Sanyo’s slow motion will not support zooming, manual focus or exposure, or image stabilization.

The Xacti HD1010 will also feature the “Face Chaser,” a face tracking feature already found on several other Sanyo camcorders. According to the manufacturer, it can recognize up to 12 faces simultaneously and adjust for brightness and focus. The feature is available in both still and video modes.

Video is recorded to SD and SDHC memory cards (not included) and outputted in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. Approximately 87 minutes of the highest quality video can be stored on an 8GB card.

The HD1010 offers a 10x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, and supports simultaneous video and still recording.

The Sanyo Xacti HD1010 retails for $799 and will ship in July.
