January 06, 2010Sanyo Announces Two New Xacti HD Camcorders: The VPC-CS1 and The VPC-SH1
January, 6 2010 – Sanyo announced two new members of the Xacti camcorder line today at CES in Las Vegas. The first is a slim, upright HD camcorder called the VPC-CS1, which Sanyo bills as the smallest Full HD camcorder to offer an optical zoom lens (10x zoom). The second camcorder is the VPC-SH1, which has more of a traditional design and is meant to be held horizontally. The VPC-SH1 has a 30x optical zoom lens and features 10-megapixel still image capability.
The VPC-CS1 is definitely targeted as prime competition for the Flip series of ultracompact camcorders. The CS1 is small enough to fit in a pocket, but has Full HD capability and a 10x optical zoom lens—two specs that aren't found on any of the Flip camcorders. The VPC-CS1 can also capture 8-megapixel still images, which is another feature absent on Flip camcorders. The VPC-CS1 will be available in February 2010 with an MSRP of $299.
With its horizontal design, the VPC-SH1 seems more like the Sanyo VPC-FH1 from last year—only a whole lot thinner. The camcorder has a number of intriguing features including a huge 30x optical zoom and extra start/stop record buttons on the front side of its body. The VPC-SH1 is expected to retail for around $399.
