April 20, 2009 - Sony announced the creation of an online video network as an extension of the Sony professional video community. The announcement came at Sony's press conference at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) in Las Vegas. More details, and a possible unveiling of the online video network, should be announced in May or June of this year.
Fitting with Sony's NAB theme of "Create.Connect.Inspire," the online video network will be a place for professional videographers to upload and share footage, post video reels, talk about products, give advice, and get questions answered. Sony didn't release too many details about the network, but it will likely be similar to Sony's current online communities like backstage101 and Digital Darkroom, which allows users to post photo galleries and join discussions about photography. During the press conference, Sony showed a video that highlighted the online network's style and design. Sony emphasized content sharing and user discussion as two important aspects with the online video network. No information about membership, video uploading specs, or firm launch dates were released.
