Sony Camcorder Announcement Liveblog

Posted by Richard Baguley

Sony are announcing a number of new camcorders  in a press conference starting at 4pm EST. We'll be liveblogging the press conference and bringing you the details right here. Stay tuned!

12:59 PST: Okay, here's what we know so far: there will be two AVCHD camcorders announced, and a number of others.

1:05PST: Our news story with the basic details is up here. There are two AVCHD camcorders: the HDR-UX1 and the HDR-SR1.

1:09PST: here's the first picture: this is the HDR-UX1, which looks rather like a standard DVD camcorder. Interestingly, there appears to be a focus ring. It also has a HDMI output.

1:18PST: It uses a CMOS sensor, and takes 4.0 megapixel still images. That sounds like it is the same sensor as the HC3 (Review, Specs, $969.99), although the back end processing is no doubt different.

1:27PST: Well, the blogging gods have frowned upon us: our connection to our man in Havana (AKA the press conference in New York) isn't working correctly. So, i'm going to wrap this up: we'll be posting more details of the new camcorders in our news story here.
